What is Public Domain?
Copyrights can expire?
Answer
Public domain is when a book, movie, song, or other work that is eligible for copyright, has no copyright. Usually, works end up in the public domain when the creator's copyright expires. Sometimes the creator chooses to give them up. This means anyone can use these works however they want, without needing to ask for the creator's or copyright holder's permission. You can think of them as the OG open educational resources. They are one way an instructor can make sure their class is ZTC. If you use materials in the public domain, you'll still want to cite them.
