What is Boolean searching?
What do you mean there are different types of searches?
Answer
Boolean searching is when a searcher uses AND, OR, or NOT to construct a prompt. These let you search more precisely.
If you search peanut butter AND jelly, your results will be about the sandwich. If you search peanut butter OR jelly, you'll get results about PBJ sandwiches, jelly donuts, and peanut butter cookies. And if you search peanut butter NOT jelly, you'll get only the cookies.
AND is great to use when you have too many results.
OR is great to use when you don't have enough, or don't know which term you should use.
NOT is great to use when you keep getting results from more subjects than you want.
Using these can take some practice, so feel free to stop by the library and ask to go over it in person.
